Lower Calf Creek Falls, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
(southeastern Utah)

Lower Calf Creek Falls is a 126 foot cascade that stands at the end of a 2.7 mile hike inside a red rock canyon. This is an easy hike with a big reward.

The National Monument was established by President Clinton with a Presidential Proclamation in 1996. It was named after Father Silvestre Velez de Escalante, an explorer/priest who was looking for a route from New Mexico to Alta, California around 1772. The name Grand Staircase was given by explorer John Wesley Powell in his 1875 book, Exploration of the Colorado River of the West and It's Tributaries.
