Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Utah Navajo Name: Tse' Bii' Ndzisgaii The Mittens Monument Valley is a small part of the nearly 16 million acres Navajo Reservation, and its residents are but a small percentage of the Navajo population of more than 300,000. No one knows when the first Navajo came to Monument Valley. For generations the Navajo have herded sheep and other livestock and raised small quantities of crops. The Anasazis left the valley in the 1300's. The Monument Valley area is an example of low impact use unlike National Parks. This photograph was taken in October 2003. It is the main view from the Visitors Center. This image was captured using Fuji Velvia film. In this image you see the left and right Mittens and Merrick Butte and the main dirt road into the park. This image was scanned and reproduced with a Lightjet printer on Fujiflex super glossy paper. Two vehicles parked along the road were removed from the photograph. www.phillipandersonphotography.com |
