Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Utah

Navajo Name: Tse' Bii' Ndzisgaii
Elevation: 5,564 feet
Size: 91,696 acres

Evening Harmony

Monument Valley is a small part of the nearly 16 million acres Navajo Reservation, and its residents are but a small percentage of the Navajo population of more than 300,000. No one knows when the first Navajo came to Monument Valley. For generations the Navajo have herded sheep and other livestock and raised small quantities of crops. The Anasazis left the valley in the 1300's. The Monument Valley area is an example of low impact use unlike National Parks.

This photograph was taken at about 5:00 P.M. in October 2003 from John Ford's Point.  The butte in the center of the image is Merrick Butte, and off to the left is a mitten.
The image was captured with an ARCA Swiss View Camera using 120 Fuji velvia film and can be printed at a larger size of 36x54 in.  Please contact the artist for more info.
